Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone
2009 is nearly over. It was a very eventful year. With a new personal best Ironman time (8h11min) and 5th place in the Ironman European Championship (Ironman Germany). Also another solid performance (even if I expected a bit more, still a result that showed me, I am in the mix with the best ones in the world) in the Ironman Hawaii World Championship. And a great 3rd place in Wiesbaden at the 70.3 Ironman Germany where I battled for 2nd place till the very last 2km with the current 70.3 World Champion Michael Raelert.
For 2010 I have big plans. I will start the season with the international triathlon Abu Dhabi on 13th march. A new race in the calender. I am very excited about the distances there. Its a 3km/200km/20km distance race. So it will suit me well and I am sure it will be a great and big battle out there in the heat of Abu Dhabi. Biggest goal for 2010 is for sure the Ironman Hawaii World Championship in October. I had a great preperation in Boulder this year. I worked with the altitude for the first time and my solid result in Hawaii showed me, I am on the right way. Its great to have somebody like Greg Bennett as my personal coach. For 2010 I also have a Kurt Bürgi on board. A very successful cycling coach here in switzerland who will give me new inputs for my bike training.
There will be two new sponsors on board for next year too. More about that soon.
Now I enjoy the last days at home in Willisau, Switzerland. It was freezing cold the last days (down to -16°C). But its great to have a white Xmas.
I wish everybody out there a great Xmas time and a Happy New Year!!!
See you out there !
Mathias
